Well, Buddy didn't die (actually, he did*), but Animal Man is no more. Overall, not the best comic, it won't win any awards, but it was decent enough. Good amount of action, good character moments, and some nice cameos by the League of Titans.
* - Buddy didn't die...in this. But check out Blackest Night #5, where Buddy is now a holder of a Black Ring.

I don't think that the mini-series was mediocre. I think that Gerry Conway tied up things nicely without messing up previous continuity. The story also shows that there is a lot more heroism in Buddy Baker's character than just his powers alone. It was more enjoyable and entertaining than I thought it was going to be. Lets hope that his appearances in Blackest Night and others pave the way for more AM titles. Maybe a back-up feature like the Legion tales in Adventure Comics and Question in Detective Comics.

Thankful Animal Man Fans... « Result #4 on Nov 28, 2009, 9:43pm »
I meant to post this on Thanksgiving, but oh well.
It has been a good year for Animal Man, and we Buddy fans are thankful.
We got a mini-series (mediocre as it may have been), and this past week Buddy made two more comic appearances.
Make sure you check out DC's Blackest Night. This week's issue (#5) has Animal Man, and he is greatly "affected" by a Black Lantern ring.
Also, Buddy and family make an appearance in Justice League Cry for Justice # 5. Not only do we get to see Buddy, we get to see him in beautifully painted artwork by Mauro Cascioli! It looks phenomenal!
I can't wait for the next issues of these two series to see what happens with Buddy!

DiDio: Yes there are. We have a number of team books and a lot of space epic stories, which Animal Man might fit nicely in. That's a character that everybody gets excited about. We'll be seeing more of Animal Man in 2010.
