I am very excited about this series. At the end of Brightest Day the main characters turned into elemental forces to bring back the Swamp Thing. Martian Manhunter = Earth Hawkman/Girl = Wind Aquaman = Water Firestorm = Fire
and the Swamp Thing was the Flora element.
When that series ended in that way the first thing that stood out to me was that there needed to be a "Fauna" element to balance our the Swamp Thing's Flora. I wanted Buddy to be that element.
With the cover of #1 looking like he is being consumed by the roots of a crazy tree, plus Animal Man being part of the returned Vertigo corner of the DCU relaunch line along with Swamp Thing and Constantine, makes me think I may not be too far off base.
What was the element called that Buddy would tap into that was introduced after Morrison's run? Was it The Red? Am I remembering that correctly?
Anyway...Im clearly over thinking this.
The best piece of info about this series was when Jeff Lemire said that he is going to be focusing on Buddy as a family man. That's my Buddy. Also said that Maxine will start developing powers too....could be interesting.

Okay, the Red concept sounds very fine to me, but I wanna Buddy wearing his A-Man costume and being a proper superhero, I don't wanna an overblown Vertigo approach, it's not suitable anymore. By the way: www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=32686

I'm excited about a new series and I will definitely be picking it up. My only complaint is that I want AM back in the regular superhero world instead of the vertigo world, or quasi vertigo when it comes to the reboot.

This sounds like it will be true to the Buddy we know, unlike the last days which was poor when everything is considered. Lemire's run on sweet tooth is slow and calculated. He appears to have a good handle on creating the animal hybrids in this and this may help when Buddy needs to acquire/use his powers. I like others love the human aspect about Buddy's character. he just comes across as a decent guy and pretty normal too e.g. sensitive, uncertain. I hope Lemire truly uses Buddy's power potential sensibly and also pursue the social consciousness that Buddy would certainly feel. indeed a Buddy cutting himself off from the rest of the DCU to concentrate on creating a better world environmentally etc etc would be great for me. A Budha buddy ...

PS the cover looks ace. almost like Buddy is crying blood. A little christ-like in that respect. I guess its just to represent the Red but it hints at an adult orientated storyline, rather than if he was punching or flying in his costume.
I wonder if his costume will change?? Its a re-boot and i guess there as chance of this happening.

This mature approach does sound interesting. At least he won't be alone (like Vertigo days). There will be lots of heroes in this DC Supernatural group of comics. It also seems there will be regular DC interaction (not a pocket universe like Vertigo)
I am cautiously optimistic.
According to interviews, Lemire is a huge Animal Man. I can't see him doing anything too drastic.

If they leave Animal Man's costume intact or - at least - if they leave Buddy wearing an Animal Man costume as always, I'm with them.
