Don't think the red veins are a permanent look. Just a look for the current arc. In the preview art and in the concept art you see the full costume.

Picked up the first issue today, last one on the stands and if I been 2 minutes later, I would have lost it. Actually it was sort of funny, because some guys were standing around when I picked it up, then this other guy came in and the LCS dude told him to check out Animal Man (which I had in my hand), one of the guys was like "it was just there...weird"
*minor spoilers*
Anyway, a decent issue for sure, definitely a promising start. I don't think you will be disappointed.

5 issues in and no responses to this thread. Did people forget about this forum?
Out of all the new books DC is putting out, this one stands head and shoulders above the rest (maybe with the exception of Swamp Thing, to which this is tied, but I'm not reading that one, yet.)

I'm here! ALSO, it is a huge hit. Big sales. This is the final victory for Buddy I guess.

i can't wait for the animal man/swamp thing crossover. also excited for the upcoming "Dial H" series. it's supposed to fit in with the current animal man and swamp thing books. plus, Dial H has covers by brian bolland.

This has been one of my favorite books of the past year. Seven issues in and I have yet to be let down. Both the art and writing are amazing. It's truly the complete package. Having Buddy and his whole family back is liking seeing an old friend every time I read an issue.
In addition the building crossover with Swamp Thing (Which is also an amazing book) has been very good. Can't wait for the climax to this arc and wherever else the writer takes us.
