I even think Giffen & Dematteis did a five part storyline in JLA Classified.

It's not related: i just learned & checked about it when i read ur post & actually that's probably veeeery baaaaad news when it comes to filling the gap between the Vertigo series'ending & Buddy's return to the DCU.
If Buddy's getting a series in the mainstream universe, there's no hope left for a Vertigo mini that'd fill the gap: in the post-Infinite Crisis DCU, there's no continuity left at all :-(
Now i still don't have any official info but as i speak the proposal's probably already been rejected :-(
Let's wait. I'll let u know within a few days.
Now, the good news is that at least we'll have a new Animal Man series ANYWAY ;-D

Shaomi,
Are you saying me they just "removed" the Vertigo continuity from his life, and that's it? Sounds plausible.

Hi, well... 2 years later can't be too late ;D. The proposal was submitted back then to an assistant editor at Vertigo (alongside a dozen other ideas for various character revivals), and we never heard of it again. Soon after the writer's agent resigned from being an agent and as he was the only contact between DC and the writer, that was it... :-( But as I said anyway Buddy's back to mainstream DCU probably made this "fill the gap" story impossible in the first place... So bad

So bad Shaomi, thank you so much for your update anyway. We can fill the gap by ourselves, all in all.

You're much welcome. Basically if I remember correctly the idea was that the ecological "cult" Buddy led at this time went too far and became too radical, so the government wanted the JLA to do something about it before they would send the national guard or something more violent like that, but as it was Vertigo we'd only have had "hidden" guest such as Martian Manhunter disguised as a human and named "John", so the hardcore fans would get it, and the Swamp Thing would also have tried to moderate things, and as Buddy was softening (already at the end of the series after he reverted back from a bird monster to a human) another dude from the cult (an extremist) was kinda taking over the cult and it was all about Buddy fighting this dude (in a very "polictical" way, no "super-hero fight") to avoid terrorist disaster, and eventually Buddy would win and decide to "disappear" for a while, and this of course would also have shown the resolution of his relationship with the supporting cast (including this woman he was cheating his wife with). That's all from memories so some things might be inaccurate but basically that was the idea. Basic idea but could have been a cool mini-series if well written
