yeah, i'll be picking this up. it's got animal man in it, of course i'm picking it up. in fact i pick up any book that he appears in. even if it's just on the cover or for only 1 panel. if buddy's in it, i'm buying it.

I'm excited for the character but Buddy is yet again lurking in the background like a minor or insignificant character. How many of the Countdown to Adventure covers featured the Animal Man front and centre? Then again I'm just happy he's there and not in comicbook limbo along with the Gay Ghost or the Inferior Five.

actually buddy appeared on the covers of issues 1, 5 and 8. on 1, he is in front of starfire. on 5, he is the only hero on the cover (kicking ass at that). on 8, he is in front of adam strange.
of the 8 issues, buddy is on 3 covers (1 solo and 2 group) adam strange is on 3 covers (1 solo and 2 group) starfire is on 3 covers (1 solo and 2 group) forerunner is on 5 covers (3 solo and 2 group)

out of curiosity, i looked into how many issues of 52 buddy appeared on. he's got 4 plus vol.1 of the trade paperbacks. week 20, he is up front and center. week 40 is a solo cover.

No, no, Buddy is a lead character again! Lots of new covers featuring him in prominence... lots of new adventures where he's kicking ass! TERRIFIC.
(by the way, it makes sense he's now enlisted as 'Cosmic Hero', since his origin is alien and his whole nature is pivotal to the Multi-universe's existence).
Maverick, what new animal powers are you talking about? Please, describe.
(by the way, welcome aboard).

I was kind of disappointed that the Forerunner character had nothing to do with the main storyline in Countdown to Adventure. It was misleading because it appeared as if she was part of the team according to the covers.
I think Maverick meant that Animal Man has access to new animals and thus new abilities. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong. personally, i was hoping that forerunner ended up w/ buddy, adam and kori by the end of the mini. she would have been a nice addition. she could still pop up in holy war though. yes, i also think maverick was referring to the unknown number of animals buddy has access to.

Something I don't think they have answered yet is weather his powers are universal or multiversal. When Martian Manhunter scanned his mind and found that his understanding of the universe was unsettling, he still had knowledge of the multiverse.

Something I don't think they have answered yet is weather his powers are universal or multiversal. When Martian Manhunter scanned his mind and found that his understanding of the universe was unsettling, he still had knowledge of the multiverse. His knowledge comes from the 'Second Crisis' arc. Keep in mind the Pre-Crisis Earth-One Animal Man and the Post-Crisis Earth-Sigma Animal Man are two separate entities. Basically, "our" Buddy has come into being only after the Crisis. I think the morphogenetical grafts implanted in his structure make him "tune" with any morphic field existing in the multi-universe.

I get the different versions of Animal Man mixed up. Where does one end and the other begin? Also is there a timeline showing the different crisis....crisises....crisi?

when/where was it established that "our" buddy didn't come along until after crisis? he was around before and during crisis. i could be wrong but to my understanding buddy "retired" from th esuperhero game after (or possiblely right before) crisis. as morrison's 1st arc picks up, he is thinking about coming out of retirment.
i'm not so sure there is a place where 1 ends and 1 begins. i say they are 1 in the same w/ just some back peddling (retconning) to smooth things out a bit.
as for a crisis timeline, the 1 that comes to mind can be found in issoe 0 of zero hour and in the zero hour trade paperback.

I get the feeling that the writers at DC have screwed up their universe. They're always trying to fix it.

i think a lot of it goes back to the pre-crisis era. for as much as crisis on infinite earths fixed, there were still a lot of issues w/ everything. now i think they are trying to please everyone w/ the new multiverse but still keeping it all 1 earth. the problem now is you've got stories happening way out of order. there are some stories happening now that take place before countdown and some that we can't figure out where the hell they fit in.
just my opinion on the subject.
