I've read Animal Man #26 for the first time in 2 decades. Last time I've read number 26 was in 1993, 20 years ago. I was a kid. Now I'm a man and I can "grasp" the underlying themes a bit better. Still, I'm shocked, stunned, amazed and confused at the very same time !!! So what's the point in the end? Help me to understand it. In the "final confrontation" with Grant Morrison, Animal Man is just a puppy in the hands of the writer. Animal Man is not able to persuade/convince Grant about anything. On the other hand, Grant claims anything Buddy thinks o says comes straight from him (Grant) and his writing. So what's the point of the confrontation? Is Grant just talking with himself via Animal Man? Animal Man seems (and feels) useless. I don't detect any kind of love towards the character in Grant's words or actions, judging by #26. So what's the point? Why did Grant show all his "writer powers" to Buddy? Why did Grant "crush" (and literally killed) Animal Man through his fictional characters (the Shark Man)? Is Grant jealous of Animal Man, because Animal Man is "immortal" and "perfect"? James Highwater thought the creators aren't real too. In the end, Foxy "answers" Grant. Is that meaning that even Grant and his world (our world) are not real? That would be Animal Man's "revenge" against him. Don't get me wrong, #26 is total genius and pure ART. It's brilliant. It's intense and shocking, groundbreaking. I just don't get the point. Please explain !!!!!! P.s: during the final fight between Animal Man and Overman, there's a mysterious presence (an invisible silhouette entity) helping Buddy in the "space inbetween the comic book panel". What is that
