Overall, I really liked this book. It was nice to see Buddy and a happy family again. The scenes with Ellen and Starfire were hysterical! Buddy being a stuntman again was cool.
Buddy and Starfire's powers are messed up which is annoying. (Invasion anyone?) Adam Strange is replaced on Rann, which is stupid.
The art is nice with great color. HOWEVER, I have one major problem with the art! The kids are drawn way too young!! Cliff looks 5 and Maxine looks 3. That pissed me off. I can deal with the slightly younger 52 Cliff and Maxine post Vertigo, but this artist doesn't even get visually close to their ages. That is my only major beef.
Looks like this series is going to be very fun!

Powers MESSED UP? WHY? Please, explain! About the ages, Buddy's life has been rebooted by Infinite Crisis, so his origins have changed again. Now it seems that Cliff and Maxine are younger.

After Infinite Crisis, I could deal with the pre-issue 26 Animal Man back again. In 52, the kids are back to about these ages. Ok, fine.
Wait until you see the artists' renditions in Countdown to Adventure. It's not storyline, it's just bad art. Hopefully, he'll get their "look" straightened out by next issue.
As for their powers, it is not explained yet. Starfire is powerless and she is actually fine with that. She figures she used up her powers flying back to Earth to give Ellen Buddy's jacket. She wants a more normal life. (Buddy even gets her to stay with them while she gets settled and watch the kids. Ellen is not amused. Ellen keeps trying to push her off on the Titans. Lol.) You can tell Ellen is jealous, and senses a deep bond between the two. Ellen justs needs to have seen the part of 52 where a naked Starfire is standing in front of Buddy and he is only interested in the picture of his family. She would not worry then.
Buddy assumes his powers are in flux because his body needs to readjust to the Earth's M-Field after being away so long. About mid-issue though, he starts to worry and contemplates contacting Dr. Midnite or even Dr. Fate.
The following issues will explain more. Hope this helps.

Issue 2: Buddy and Starfire are still having problems with their powers. Buddy one time even exhibits a strange red eye beam power which nearly incinerates a robber. He is unsure where that power even came from!
The madness plague affecting random citiznes seems to have one thing in common, the victims murmur "Believe in her..." (Seems like Lady Stix is back)
The final scene shows a race of aliens that have declared the Earth to be sterilized to prevent the "plague" from going any further. They set a course and are on their way.

Countdown to Adventure ended last month at issue #8. This month you can pre-order the TPB. Buddy will back with the rest of the space gang in the next mini-series: RANN/THANAGAR: HOLY WAR which begins this month I think.

It's me or NOW Animal Man is one of the most popular "space heroes" in the DC Comics Multiuniverse? Maybe someone finds alien species as being far more interesting in terms of animal powers... ain't it? Hahahahaha LOL ;D Well, what did A-Man accomplish in 'Countdown to Adventure'? Did he absorb any never-previously-displayed animal power? Tell me, tell me!

Oh, did he ever. Unfortunately I do not have the comics here (I gave them to my dad to read, I felt this series was that good), so I can't scan anything at the moment, but off the top of my head:
Uses some sort of Laser Vision in issue #2
Later on, he picks up some sort of flight, but he gains immense speed and nearly crashes into an energy barrier. After he stops, he picks up some sort of flotation based flight powers, unlike anything he had used before.
In space, he accidentally acquired a sea animal, and couldn't breathe. Around the same time, he acquired some sort of weird elastic-like ability (which was of no use at the time).
I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but it all boils down to this: Buddy is now connected to the M-Field, of the entire Universe, and perhaps even the Multiverse. He can channel any animal anywhere, basically. An image showed Buddy's head with 3 lines of different animal heads, mostly alien, stretching off into space behind him.
He has also said "There's so many, it's like picking through a catalog." and that he would have to do his homework on the whole situation.
In other words, he's practically a god now, kind of.

In other words, he's practically a god now, kind of. i have always said that buddy has the potential to be the most powerful hero in the dcu. finally. someone has planted some seeds to help the others realize this as well. he should definitely be an a-list hero.

I wish more writers would realize this. Not enough readers know about him, I don't think he gets enough exposure and they all want Superman/Batman.

The funny thing is, a lot of people I talk to on forums are deathly sick of the overexposure SuperBats gets.
I honestly think Buddy could be a huge hit. He offers something you can't find anywhere else, not only in powers, but in character and everything.
Hell, wouldn't it be cool to have a guy who can break the 4th wall running around Final Crisis, talking about how "The Creator" is going through some sort of Mid Life Crisis of his own or something? Could be hilarious.

personally, superman shoul dhave stayed dead. the only good superman, is a dead superman. all hail doomsday. but hat is just my opinion.
i have said many times that buddy should be an a-list hero and has the potential to be the most powerful hero in the dcu.
i coul dbe wrong but i don't think buddy remembers breaking the 4th wall or meeting grant morrison anymore. i think he said somewhere he had figured out "the meaning of life" but couldn't remember what it was.

I always found it fitting that a guy like this should/could be incredibly powerful. It seems like everything is based of Superman, hell, everything is based of Superman. But the thing is, it discounts all the other powers that could make one strong, or even the potential in displaying those other powers.
The big 3: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman.
Supes - Strong fast etc etc WW - Strong fast etc etc Batman - Nothing.
So while you might get good stories, you get redundant powers. We've seen it before. Imagine if the big three were:
Animal Man - Multiversal animal Powers Metamorpho - Can turn into anything Geo-Force - Can control gravity/the earth
I think you could have equally compelling stories, with a whole new range of powers. Imagine having a guy like Reis or Benes working on these guys. We could be seeing some absolutely incredible stuff visually.
From an artistic standpoint alone, there is loads of potential in a guy like Animal Man, not to mention story-wise.

Could be hilarious. Mave, that would be a magnificent conclusion to the saga of the "Crisises". What an insight. By the way, I've always claimed that Animal Man can be/is one of the top 5 most powerful superheroes in the whole Multi-universe (including MARVEL). I like the idea he's not that skilled or just don't dare to use his full potential enough... after all, he's "one of us" - a simple guy - and that's what we absolutely love of him!

Add Swamp Thing to the mix and you would have almost all of the bases covered. Now we need to come up with an name for the group. Universal Adepts or The Absolutes .......... or not. Any ideas?
