Complete list of Buddys use of Animal Powers in Countdown to Adventure:
- Issue #2 - while attacking a couple low life robbers, he had a gun pulled on him. From out of no where, Cyclops-like red optic blasts came out of his eyes and fried the dude. Quote "He's alive, but...but what did I do? those weren't the abilities of any animal I remember seeing...my mind reached out instinctively...but what did I grab?"
- Issue #2 - Used a rhino as well.
- Issue #3 - Quote "My link with the M-Field is still there, but fuzzy...it just takes longer to find animals because there is all this stuff in the way. I can't explain it, but I'll be fine."
- Issue #3 - While fighting a group of infected civilians, Buddy tries to switch from an elephant to a horse, so he can "buck these sad sacks off." But instead a massive electrical tornado flies out of him, clearing the entire area. Quote "I don't know...I reached out for horse abilities and got...something else. I can't even describe it..." He then picks up hummingbird powers and they take off.
- Issue #4 - The big reveal. In order to escape some maniac people, Buddy tries to access some flight powers. You see his eyes, which have spirals in them, and this is when we see the huge collection of animals and his head in space. I was wrong earlier, there is actually 6 lines of animal heads stretching from the front of the page all the way back into space. Like thousands that we can see, and obviously much more we can't. Most are alien. Quote "So many animals...so many I've never seen before...lined up like a giant catalog...almost impossible to sort through...wait, there. Eagle."
Thats it for now, Issues #5-#8 will come along with scans.

I love Animal Man. Hands down, the greatest comic book superhero of all the times.
Maverick, very nice account, you should write something for 'Into the Morphogenetic Field'... think about it.
It looks like Buddy is permanently connected to a a bigger source of power: the universal morphogenetic field. Frightening.
I'm wondering how it happened. Must be the "upgrade" the Agents did when he was reconstructed again, after his latest death. I'm sure Buddy will play a major role in the upcoming Final Crisis. Right now, he could be the most powerful being on New Earth.

or maybe, he has always had the ability to tap into the "universal" morphogenetic field but just didn't know how to. kind of like the old tv show "the greatest american hero". his suit gave him all kinds of abilities but he lost the owners manual and didn't know how to use it or what he could do.

In the TPB #3 he learnt he didn't really need to have animals around him, because his constant connection to the M-Field. I remember it wasn't an upgrade of the Agents; he just learnt about this deeper connection, sort of. Can you check it out for me?

I remember it was when he "experienced" that hallucinating journey induced by the peyote. Isn't it? Can you report the exact quotes?

I think he just tapped into the thing, and chose a relatively random animal. At least he could learn about animals on Earth, and be prepared.
Now he has access to the whole Universal M-Field, and picks an animal at random. Interestingly, he learns where that animal is from as well, like what planet and solar system.

Mave,
It doesn't surprise me at all. When Buddy's organism was being "reconstructed" by the Agents at the very beginning of Out of Africa (see TPB #2), his (spiritual) essence "rationalized" the Morphogenetic Field as a sort of encyclopedia. Names, genetic patterns. PURE INFOS.
