I read an interview by Morrison in Wizard back in November where he said 52 was his LAST Animal Man story and said there would be tears from Animal Man fans. Well this got me real worried especially since the rumor was one of heroes in space (Adam Strange, Starfire and Buddy) were going to die or not make it back. Then I read 52 #36 and my fear became reality. I was so sad and upset. I argued that Buddy just has to find a way to return. He always does. I went a week of thinking this was the end of Buddy then I read 52 #37 and the last page made me so happy..."and so it begins". I haven't been this enthused in an Animal Man story since Morrisons run. I can't wait to see where this story goes.

I haven't been this enthused in an Animal Man story since Morrisons run. I can't wait to see where this story goes. "It begins..." - when I read about Buddy's death on the related WIKIPEDIA article (I'm in Italy, and '52' is not published yet here), I was SHOCKED and frustated to say the least. Then, someone updated the article, exposing the news concerning the resurrection. Allright, world is spinning in the right direction now. "It begins..." - Is Buddy definitely doomed to be a key-figure in the DC Comics universe? Of course! Buddy is now more popular than ever, and let's put this thing straight: he's the one to know the truth! Maybe he will play a pivotal role in some upcoming crisis, so stay tuned. That's the biggest slap in the face of all the Animal Man detractors. Our beloved second rate superhero saved the world in the Second Crisis, and now he's appointed to do that a second time.

I knew the main points of the series but didn't know Buddy was in it. I have been reading 52 though. Is it worth picking up the tpb of Infinite Crisis?

I was referring to the #18-#26 story-arc where Buddy faced somewhat of a small "crisis", not to the recent Crisis re-hash that engulfed the DCU (ZeroHour, Hypertime, Infinite Crisis). Wait a moment... can you tell me something more about A-Man involvement in '52'? How can he use his animal powers in the space? He's linked to Earth morphogenetic field.

I'm not sure but he sure is using them. No that I think about it more I think Animal Man was in Infinite Crisis. (That would explain why he was in space in the beginning of 52) I need to get that book.

At least, '52' salvaged Buddy and made him a prominent character. I see this new crisis as unncessary. A new multiverse? Please! It's so confusing now!

I think the Aliens showed back up because after the crisis and the
multiverse
Buddy needs a new template. Morrison said it was the last ANIMAL MAN story, he never said anything about Buddy.

I just hope Buddy will keep his 'Animal Man' persona for the many years to come. Welcome, Hell!

I sure hope Buddy makes it through 52. I am still worried. I was so upset when he "died". I had a complaint letter in the mailbox to DC after that issue, but fortunately spoilers for the next issue came out before the mail ran, and I was able to get it out. LOL!
I am still nervous about Buddy surviving. The JLA reference doesn't help. The Grant Morrsion interview in which he says "There will be a lot of tears for the old fans", and "this is my last Buddy Baker story. Take that how you will." gives me no comfort.
I wonder if Buddy's fate is known one year later, or is he simply still missing?

Oh about Infinite Crisis and 52, evidentally in space Buddy can't access the M-field. He used his powers the "old-fashioned" way, he would link up with alien creatures. (Lightning Blasts from the Lightning Beast of Rann, Breathe fire ability from some bug creatures, and even tapped into Lobo's space dolphin).

That's because the morphogenetic grafts "resonate" in his organism, tuning with any animal form of life in close proximity. Evidently, his "collective" powers work only on Earth, when "pushed" deep into the absolutistic M-FIELD. Brilliant.

In next week's 52 (#43), Animal Man and his alien buddies reappear. Buddy is even on the cover holding a photo of Ellen and the Kids. I can't wait!
I sure hope Buddy makes it out of 52 alive. (I know it is pessimistic, but I have a bad feeling about Buddy's DC future. I sure hope I am wrong)

They represent Grant Morrison, after all.

Tarzan, Can you describe me Buddy's costume for '52'? is it identical to that portrayed by the related action figure?
